General Information
What is changing and when?
AECOM will transition from The Hartford to New York Life for life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance, disability insurance, and leave of absence (LOA) administration.
This means New York Life will become your provider for these benefits and will administer new disability claims and leave requests beginning January 1, 2027.
Why is AECOM making this change?
AECOM regularly reviews its benefits programs to help ensure you have access to competitive benefits and a positive experience when using those benefits.
New York Life is a well-established provider of disability and leave administration services. It offers online claim and leave management tools, as well as support resources to assist employees throughout the claims and leave process.
Will I need to re-enroll because of the transition to New York Life?
No. The transition to New York Life does not require you to re-enroll solely because the carrier is changing. However, you should review your benefits during Open Enrollment (October 19 – November 6, 2026) and make any updates that best meet your needs for 2027. There are some new enhancements and special enrollment opportunities. Learn more in the sections below.
Will my benefits be interrupted during the transition?
AECOM and New York Life are working together to provide a smooth transition and minimize disruptions in coverage, leave administration, and claims processing.
If you have an active leave or disability claim that extends into 2027, AECOM and New York Life will coordinate the transfer of applicable information and provide instructions if any action is required on your part. See Disability Benefits and Leave Absence section below for more information.
Additional Details
Will my life insurance coverage change?
AECOM will continue to automatically provide basic life and AD&D insurance at no cost to you. If you want additional coverage for yourself or your family, you may continue to elect supplemental life insurance as a new hire, during Benefits Open Enrollment or within 31 days of a qualifying life event. Learn more on our Benefits and Wellbeing site.
While the provider is changing, life insurance plan features and coverage rules will remain the same with an added new coverage option for child supplemental life insurance (see below).
Yes. Beginning January 1, 2027, supplemental life insurance rates will decrease under New York Life. Rates will continue to be based on factors such as age and coverage levels. Updated rates are available in the 2027 Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance Rates flyer.
Yes. Beginning in 2027, you may elect a new Child Supplemental Life Insurance option of $20,000, in addition to the existing $10,000 option.
In addition, during 2027 Open Enrollment (October 19 – November 6, 2026), you have a special opportunity to enroll in or increase coverage up to the Guaranteed Issue (GI) amount without providing Evidence of Insurability (EOI).
Life insurance claims are generally administered based on the date of death, not the date the claim is filed.
- If the date of death occurred before January 1, 2027, contact The Hartford.
- If the date of death occurred on or after January 1, 2027, contact New York Life.
For step-by-step instructions on filing a claim with New York Life, review the How to file your life and ADD claim flyer.
You can also find claim filing contact information in the Contacts and Resources section below.
Are my disability benefits changing?

Yes, during 2027 Open Enrollment (October 19 – November 6, 2026) you have a special opportunity to enroll in LTD coverage or increase coverage without providing EOI.
The company responsible for your claim depends on your disability date (when you stop working due to your medical condition or disability):
- If your disability begins before January 1, 2027, contact The Hartford.
- If your disability begins on or after January 1, 2027, contact New York Life.
For example, if your disability begins in December 2026 but you do not submit your claim until January 2027, you will still contact The Hartford.

What is changing for leave administration?
Beginning January 1, 2027, New York Life will become AECOM’s leave of absence administrator. If you request a leave on or after January 1, 2027, you will work directly with New York Life.
New York Life will administer most AECOM leave programs, including:
- Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave
- Parental leave
- Military leave
- Personal leave
- Applicable state leave programs
If you already have a disability or pregnancy leave request with The Hartford and your leave begins before January 1, 2027, you should continue following your current leave reporting procedures with The Hartford. If your leave extends into 2027, AECOM and New York Life will work together to transfer the appropriate leave information to support the continued administration of your leave.
Depending on your situation, you may temporarily interact with both vendors during the transition. For example, if you are on a pregnancy leave or have a disability claim that begins before January 1, 2027, The Hartford will continue to administer and pay any disability benefits associated with your 2026 claim, while leave administration activities, such as FMLA, parental leave, or other job-protected leave tracking, may transition to New York Life beginning January 1, 2027.
If your leave is affected by the transition, you will receive communications from New York Life with guidance specific to your situation, including updated contact information, details about the transition, and any actions you may need to take.
